Trade Axe
Trade Axe
This simple rustic axe is based closely on examples Europeans brought to the new world as early as the 16th century for their own use as well as to trade with American Indians. Its simple functional design made it popular through the 18th and even into the 19th century.
This example was made from mild steel with a center laminated 1084 bit. It has a hand riven curly maple handle fit down through the eye and secured with a leather gasket. The maple handle has been stained and finished to bring out the beauty of the tight curl in the wood.
